Luce Edgar is an African American teenager who was adopted by husband and wife Amy and Peter Edgar who give him the name Luce meaning light. Luce excels at his school both academically and athletically. Problems arise when Luce claims that teacher Harriet Wilson is going after him. Wilson claims that Luce is writing controversial ideas in class and it becomes a “who believes who” and “who is right” between the school and Amy and Peter.
